Waarom zijn kofferplanetspelers mooi?

De kofferplatenspelers uit jaren 60 zijn ontzettend mooi. Gewoon cool!

Ze hebben nostalgische uitstraling, en ze werken nog steeds redelijk wel.

Als je aan de "koffertje" kijkje werpt, wat denk je eraan?

Ik: aan de schooljaren, mijn ouders, mijn eersre LPs, ik van mijn moeder cadeau kreeg.

In Sovjet-Unie hadden wij "mobiele" platenspelers met redelijk goede technische kenmerken zoals preciese tracking van naald in de groove, goede klank, acceptabel rumble- niveau, in handel.

Meestaal waren de platenspelers als nevenproductie (van Ministerie van Defensie) ontwikkelt. De uitvoering was, zoals het bij Ministerie van Defensie van jaren 60 hoorde, uitstekend.

De platenspelers uit Sovjet-Unie hoorde niet tot elitaire, "preciese",  wel tot non-nonsense klas van de apparatuur. De tracking was goed genoeg (met inzet van brutal force en high compliance styli).  Niet de laatste: "old new stock" elementen zijn eventueel nog te koop aangeboden:

De platenspelers klonken goed, omdat de luidsprekers in de koffer (het geheele acoustische systeem dus) waren zo ontworpen, om hum en rumble uit de kalnk weg te filteren. 

Het geheele concept, zogenoemde kofferplatenspeler, werkt dus met disclaimer: "Laat nostalgische platen op de nostalgische platenspeler draaien".

Dat was ene, Oosterse kant acther de "ijzeren gordijn".

Een 100% relevante verhaal (jaar 2015) voor jongere enthousiasten, die op zoek naar nostalgische platenspelers gaan, heb ik in het Internet gevonden:

"Now - I love the Newcomb players for what they are - but high fidelity they are NOT. 

They work really well, they're hard to break, they're really the best portable machine you could hope for. 

But... there's a lot of downsides. They're not as bad as a Crosley when it comes to tracking - that they do pretty well. 

But, they do track fairly heavy, and the powerpoint cartridge they use is low compliance. 

Also, mono. They won't destroy records - but they will cause more wear than a good hi-fi table will. 

Not to mention, they're insane if they think a Newcomb is worth that much. $40 tops. 

There are a zillion of them out there, and they never die. 

By all means, pick one up if you find one for a sane price. 

It's great to have a portable player on hand, and they're the best thing in the world for playing 78's. 

Parts and needles are readily available, etc. 

I can't say enough good things about the Newcomb portables - for what they are. 

I have a few of them, I use them - but, don't think for a minute you can get really good, high end sound out of one. 

It's designed to be rugged and reliable. 

Not to give accurate sound reproduction. 

Hook it up to a better amplifier or headphones and you can hear all the rumble and hum 

that gets masked by the built in speaker." 

I love them for what they are is ook mijn motto,  zoals het om oude platenspelers gaat. 

Ik ontdek continu nog betere ontwerpen, echte parels, die het werk precies kunnen doen. De vuistregel blijft: $40 tops.  Ik laat av en toe nostalgische platen op mijn nostalgische platenspeler draaien, en ervan genieten.
